I can't believe it's been a year. Where has this year gone? This week last year I was an emotional and exhausting roller coaster - like none I've ever felt. I had taken a week off work, to hang out and do whatever... At the beginning of my vacation, as I'm sitting in North Kansas City, eating yummy Mexican food, I got a phone call that would begin this ride. My sister called to tell me that they didn't think my great grandma was going to make it through the night.
It's been two years now. I have my days of missing her, like now... just remember the emotions of the week, etc.
Having the good friends t hat I do, they immediately pulled me out of the restaurant as I broke into tears and drove me the 3 hours to see my family. My great grandma had always been fragile. It took me months to get the image out of my head of her in a hospital bed, barely being able to breathe. The next morning, my dad called first thing and said she was gone. As soon as the phone rang, I knew who it was. You just get that feeling. No matter how much you're prepared, it hits you like a ton of bricks.
We hung out with the family for the day and ended up kidnapping my sister and bringing her to Kansas. We hung out and did things with her for a couple days before going back to Nebraska for my great grandma's funeral.
At the same time I was slipping away from one of the most important guys in my life. It's always been the two of us... and the flame that happened was 5 months worth of ignored phone calls, emails...
This is referring to my brother. Some things had transpired during that week I was in Nebraska. Five months later, my relationship with him slowly got back to where it was. I love him dearly and can't imagine my life without him.
My attitude is so different. My outlook on life and how people treat you. In 5 years, will this really matter? Most likely not, but it could shape and change who you're bound to become.
Have a safe and happy 4th, everyone!!! :)
