Sad day, prayers appreciated for family.

Today my roommate's niece and her husband are removing the respirator from their four day old daughter. Prayers are definitely welcome for this trying time for the family. The decision was not made lightly, and frankly was the most unselfish thing they could have done.

Friday, December 11, 2009

Why?

For the last couple of days I've been praying for a new family, my roommate's niece and her husband. They're young... just 18... and had their first child on Tuesday. Yesterday that found out that she has a chromosonal disorder that affects the brain and lungs. She would be on a respirator her whole life.

Today I'm trying to comprehend. To understand what God has planned for taking this newborn baby. I'm searching for the peace that exceeds my understanding (Phil 4:7). I'm one of those people that tries to analyze what God is up to... what's His plan?

If you could all join me in prayer for this young newlywed couple, it would be much appreciated.

How is Your Attitude of Gratitude?

That's what the sign on my church said this week. So I've been thinking about that attitude. I must admit it hasn't been the most gracious.... Too often I think about the things I need.. like my car being fixed, a part time job, etc rather than focusing on the things right in my life and what I'm thankful to God for giving me. While I'm hoping that each one of you have the BEST Thanksgiving, spending it with those you love, here is what I'm thankful for:

1. My family ... My relationship with them is getting better all the time. I've talked to my mom three or four times this week and don't want to kill her. :)

2. My friends ... I have the most amazing people in my life and I am blessed to call them my friends.

3. My job ... There are so many people who were without jobs this year and I'm very fortunate to have one!

4. "My kids" ... I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to my kids, but I am continually blessed by them. I love when I'm teaching them about the love of Jesus - THEY end up teaching me about their perspective; and it's so much sweeter than mine.

5. My car ... even though it definitely needs some work, I have something to get me to that job I'm so grateful for!

6. My church family AND my coworkers ... From the moment I stepped in, they welcomed me with open arms and have not let me down since.

the silly stuff ...

7. Baseball ... Seven months of the year when I can turn on the tv or go to a stadium and escape reality, while watching cute men run the bases.

8. FRIENDS ... No matter how many times I watch them, it never gets old. Have you had your Friends moment of the day?

9. David Cook, Josh Groban, and Rob Thomas ... Turning on my mp3 player has never sounded so good... I wish it played video though! :)

10. Facebook ... I love finding people from my past - including the woman who babysat me when I was younger!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!! Take time to reflect your attitude of gratitude today.

Hopefully doing absolutely nothing this weekend!

I've been sick all week, staying home a total of 3 days this week and last. I'm pretty excited about this whole doing nothing business. :) Need to rest my voice, which there is still none.

I never thought I'd...

I've been trying to write this blog all week... In honor of my birthday, I thought I'd share a few things in my life that I never thought I'd do.

1. I never thought I'd be doing crafts until 11 pm on a Friday night before a church event - but I do it several times a year.
2. I never thought I'd go on a mission's trip to Haiti - but I did in April and it was an amazing trip!
3. I never thought I'd call someone else's kids "my kids" - but I do at least twice a week. I'm constantly being blessed by them.
4. I never thought I'd enjoy spending so much time with kids - I miss them when I can't see them and I wouldn't imagine it any other way!
5. I never thought I'd have a job that I enjoy, with great coworkers - I actually look forward to going to work! What a concept. :)
6. I never thought I'd miss getting birthday cards. It's Saturday and I've gotten none. ZERO.
7. A few years ago, I never thought I'd move out of Nebraska. Three years ago I moved to the Kansas City area and without a doubt in my mind, it has been the best thing I've ever done.

There are also days in my plan when I never thought I'd be almost 30 and single with no kids. I know it's not my plan, but it's in God's time. I enjoy my life, but I'm not content. I am a firm believer that God has better things planned for me; bigger and better than I ever could have imagined or planned for myself.

Waiting to see the little creatures!

Now I lay me down to sleep...

Today, I had a little breakdown with God. Listening to K-Love on the way home, I began worshiping and praying. When was the last time you prayed like a child? By that I mean... literally kneeling and praying innocently for everyone else but yourself? I couldn't tell you the last time I prayed like that. Lately, I've been feeling a tad guilty about my prayer requests that I make known to God. I believe He knows our hearts, so we might as well ask, right?

My breakdown was about my prayers. The things I ask for, but never getting anywhere. God's probably telling me to wait and be patient, but I'm not listening like normal. My breakdown was about the life I lead - and am I really being Christ-like? I think I'm a faithful servant. I hope I am. Am I good steward? Most certainly not. I wish I could give people even HALF the grace that Christ gives us. Of course I sin, and I ask forgiveness. Being the human I am, I always take it back. I give Christ my life, everything... and always take it back.

I sat in my driveway, crying, pouring my heart out to Him, apologizing for the things I do and the things I don't, but should. Trying not to make deals with Him, because that's not how He works.

Maybe tonight, I'll try praying like a child. Tomorrow, I want my faith to be like that of a child. I want to be on fire for my relationship with God, making a difference in His kingdom.

Wedding today; Hope I don't cry!

I'm a sucker for weddings. Over the summer I went to the wedding of my roommate's niece.. I know the family and our Pastor was officiating... I cried and announced that he was NOT doing my wedding when the day comes. :) Last weekend I went to the wedding of my dear friend, AnneMarie. You guessed it... cried. Only 3.. or 6 times. Have a great weekend everyone!!

Not me! Monday

Not Me! Monday was created by MckMama. Check her blog to see what she is NOT up to and to get started!

I did NOT enjoy having a four day work week last week. I NEVER miss work when I'm not there.

I did NOT attend a Matthew West concert for K-Love and I did NOT enjoy it one bit!! I also did NOT cry two...or three... or four times... Sshhh. :)

Oh - and since baseball season is getting closer to being over... I did NOT thoroughly enjoy that the Yankees lost tonight... ABY!!! :)

Last week I said that I had NO ideas for my birthday... well, I have one fabulous friend who did NOT come up with an excellent idea!!! I am NOT excited at all!

Not Me! Monday

Not Me! Monday was created by MckMama. Check her blog to see what she is NOT up to and to get started!

Well, I am spending today NOT working... Thank you, Columbus!

I did NOT miss my kids on Thursday. CJ had to call me while they were all there and put me on speaker phone. I heard them all say, "Hi Miss Leslie!" So cute!

I did NOT spend any time driving, and I did NOT get to visit wonderful friends along the way. I also did NOT get to witness the most beautiful wedding I have ever seen... I won't admit that I did NOT cry 20 times during the wedding AND the reception. I would NEVER imagine me to be a crier!! :)

I did NOT play the good sister and take my brother to check out his first tattoo. :) He did all the checking and talking, I was just there for moral support. I have NOT ever thought about getting one... but I'm a wimp!!!

I have also NOT been thinking about what to do for my birthday. In one month I will NOT be hanging on to my twenties by a thread! I know what me and the roommate are doing, but how to celebrate with everyone else? Hmmm....

Oh... and I also did NOT fall down concrete steps at my parents house. I was NOT amused to say the least!

This has not been my week!!!

Tuesday got a ticket... supposedly I did not stop at that stop sign (insert eye roll here). One of my church kids was diagnosed with H1N1; so now have to call all the families of kids that were in church on Thursday. Last night my tire was sounding funny, like it was flat... pull over - oh, there's a nail in it. Going to get that fixed today. I'm sure it could be worse, but when it rains it pours!

Dear Boston

I miss you!! It seems like a lifetime ago since I walked your streets....

and looked at your beautiful architecture.

I loved holding the starfish at the aquarium....

and eating FABULOUS food in the North End.

I also loved the view from my downtown hotel room....

I also appreciate the generous Bell man that gave us restaurant ideas and awesome walking directions. Oh, Boston, how I love thee. I enjoyed every moment of the wonderful vacation you gave to me. Since your weather was too windy on the day I was supposed to go watching for whales... I will definitely be returning, since that cruise line gave us a free whale watch tour!!! :)

Go Sox!

Vacation - Maine

Maine is beautiful!!! I would love to go back some day when the leaves are changing colors. We flew into Boston on Saturday morning and drove up to Maine, via New Hampshire. In Maine we drove up the coast, driving through cute little towns (like Kennebunkport), stopping at harbors, lighthouses, a couple of beaches, looking at beautiful architecture, and.... for me - eating the most seafood I have in my life. I ate seafood the first three days... surprisingly, I liked it! :) We drove through Portland and Bangor... just taking it all in.

Where the Portland Seadogs play:

We saw a lot of water....

a few lighthouses...

hung out on the beach...

ahhhh... I love vacation. :) More about Boston tomorrow!!

Well, in all seriousness... I did NOT do much this week. LOL

I did NOT spend the last week relaxing on vacation and it was NOT wonderful in the least. I did NOT fall in love with Boston and am NOT already planning my return!

I am NOT ready to be done reading "Numbers" ... or the Old Testament for that matter. ;)

I am NOT absolutely ecstatic over fall TV. I hate summer reruns!! At this very moment, I'm watching the season premiere of One Tree Hill - yeah!!

Back to life

Ugh. I hate when vacation ends. The last week has been fabulous. A couple days in Maine (which is BEAUTIFUL) and a couple days in Boston (which I absolutely fell in love with)... ahhhhh. Rest and relaxation.

There was minor drama, but nothing we couldn't semi-deal with. One day this week I will do a full blog about vacation. For now ~ just letting you know, I've returned.

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!!!

Picture of the week(end)

It's a little fuzzy, but yes, that IS DJ Tanner... Candace Cameron Bure. I worked the klove booth at the Extraordinary Women's Conference on Saturday. Cameron spoke about her testimony and she was wonderful!!! Very polite (and tiny!) woman. :) By the way - the only reason she was taller than me was because she was wearing five inch heels. ha!

The end of.....

When I first start rolling this blog through my mind, I immediately had a friends moment. The one where Monica and Chandler are telling Rachel and Joey that they're moving in together. Rachel doesn't cry and Monica says, "It's the end of an ERA!" Rachel doesn't think that the time they've lived together can be classified as an era. Later on in the episode, Joey says, "It's the end of an ERA!" An 'era' is defined as a period of time marked by distinctive character, events, etc.; or the period of time to which anything belongs or is to be assigned. I thought I would describe the end of "my era" that was described in yesterdays blog.

I am a monitor in a chat room on a Christian dating site. I've been on this site for five years, four of which I've been a monitor. I have made a lot of friends there (not just guys), some I know that I will have for life. We have quite the eclectic group when we're all together, yet we know that God put us together for a reason... we just haven't figured out that reason yet. :)

Friday night I was discussing with one of my fellow monitors and close friends about how I just wasn't feeling it... in fact, when I was participating in chat, I was almost bored. I had been praying about it and I made the decision right then there, that this chapter of my life was done. It was time to move on. So, I emailed the guy who runs the site and asked hm how many extra days I had other than what he gives us each month. I'm sure when he reads it tomorrow morning, he's going to be like "huh?".

Thus... the end of my era. I think I can call it an era because this place has been such a huge part of my life. Like I said, I've met some of my best friends there, been to a lot of get-togethers with them, etc., etc. It may not seem like a big thing, but it really is closing a chapter in part of my life.

Regret

Last week my little brother went away to college. The school he's attending is only an hour and a half from my parents. When I first went to college, I lived 3 hours from home. Scary!!! Over the weekend I texted him a bit and he said things were good. According to my mom, he isn't liking it and wants to come home. Poor guy! Now, my first thought is I don't want him to be like me. I lasted one semester at college before I moved home. I was soooo miserable (so I thought).

I regret not giving it more of a fair chance - I think my college experience there could have gotten better. I waited six months before I attempted college again... and I don't regret going to this school, because i never would have met some of my best friends otherwise.

So, my mom asked me to talk to him... what good can I be?? Any advice from parents who have been through this??

And to the follower I lost this week -- please come back!!! I'm sorry I'm boring! lol

What have you learned from a woman this week (or ever)?

This week I'm sharing about my friend Jaclyn. I picked Jaclyn because on Friday, she and her husband, Kirk are coming to KC.

Jaclyn is a lot like me... short, sassy, and HILARIOUS... wait, I'm hilarious, right? :)

Jaclyn is one of my "internet buddies" that I met 5 years ago. I immediately loved her. She had just separated from her husband and was in need of some Christian fellowship. She came to the chat room I frequent... people immediately started ragging on her because she wasn't divorced yet. The chat room is for singles only and people got in an uproar over her being there. I stuck up for her because I thought what she needed was friends...

Our friendship quickly grew into phone calls and random cards in the mail. A couple of years later, she and her husband decided to try again... just 'dating' for quite some time. It took three years of "knowing" one another before we met.

I was actually going to San Antonio and had a layover in Dallas. She and her sister-in-law picked me up at the airport and we went to dinner... and laughed the entire time. {I don't have these pictures on my computer, but I so wish I did...} They took me back to the airport and I continued my journey. On the way HOME, I had a twelve hour layover in Dallas (that was planned) and stayed with her for the twelve hours... and also met the boyfriend.

Since that trip I've gone back to Dallas every year to visit. Kirk and Jaclyn got married (again) two and a half years ago. Here are the three of us last year after church:

One of my most favorite couples ever

Jaclyn has a heart of gold and would do anything for everyone. She always says I understand her... she gets me too, so I think we've both learned a little something. :) Her husband? He's absolutely amazing. A true gentlemen (yes, ma'am; no, ma'am) and funny as all get out. I can't wait for them to get here!! AAAHH!!!

What have I NOT done this week? Well, I did NOT finally finish reading Exodus and begin Leviticus. I did NOT get rejuvenated at church yesterday and it was NOT awesome!

I was NOT so ecstatic that Chima got asked to leave Big Brother. Who was she kidding?!? I was also NOT glad of the move Jeff made -- very smart!

I am NOT excited about the new vibe in my office - our team is gonna rock!! :)

I'm NOT getting ready for company to arrive on Friday - very excited about that!

Sunday, August 16, 2009

I must say....

My Sunday was pretty fabulous.

I woke up listening to thunderstorms... spend some time with God, talking and reading His Word. Went to church and spent some time with kids... then went to the other church and listened to an awesome sermon that spoke to my heart .... made me cry through the last half of service. :)

It's all good!

Two years ago this week

Reposted from Myspace - written June 30, 2008

I can't believe it's been a year. Where has this year gone? This week last year I was an emotional and exhausting roller coaster - like none I've ever felt. I had taken a week off work, to hang out and do whatever... At the beginning of my vacation, as I'm sitting in North Kansas City, eating yummy Mexican food, I got a phone call that would begin this ride. My sister called to tell me that they didn't think my great grandma was going to make it through the night.

It's been two years now. I have my days of missing her, like now... just remember the emotions of the week, etc.

Having the good friends t hat I do, they immediately pulled me out of the restaurant as I broke into tears and drove me the 3 hours to see my family. My great grandma had always been fragile. It took me months to get the image out of my head of her in a hospital bed, barely being able to breathe. The next morning, my dad called first thing and said she was gone. As soon as the phone rang, I knew who it was. You just get that feeling. No matter how much you're prepared, it hits you like a ton of bricks.

We hung out with the family for the day and ended up kidnapping my sister and bringing her to Kansas. We hung out and did things with her for a couple days before going back to Nebraska for my great grandma's funeral.

At the same time I was slipping away from one of the most important guys in my life. It's always been the two of us... and the flame that happened was 5 months worth of ignored phone calls, emails...

This is referring to my brother. Some things had transpired during that week I was in Nebraska. Five months later, my relationship with him slowly got back to where it was. I love him dearly and can't imagine my life without him.

My attitude is so different. My outlook on life and how people treat you. In 5 years, will this really matter? Most likely not, but it could shape and change who you're bound to become.

Have a safe and happy 4th, everyone!!! :)

Before I'm 30 progress report

While ago I posted a list of 15 things I want to do before I turn 30 - next November. I thought I'd give a little progress report of how I'm doing! :)

1. Lose weight - more specifically; ALL the weight I need to reach my ideal weight. This one isn't going so well... I need to gain (and pray for) some willpower!!!!
2. Go on a missions trip - Complete!!! Haiti was a wonderful experience. Looking forward to where God takes our group next!
3. Go on a cruise - Next February!!! A group of 8 of us are going on the K-Love Cruise to the Bahamas
4. Take care of my debt - Slowly but surely. My car was paid off last month, so now it's time to start crackin on some other things.
5. Swim with dolphins - Read #3... This is my shore excursion of choice! I can't wait!
6. Go to Boston - Details not forthcoming, but this will be happening this year! :)
7. See the Red Sox play at Fenway. - Read #6 :)
8. Meet the currently faceless man of my dreams. - Well... God hasn't brought him my way yet. Keep praying
9. Learn to play the piano. - I still would like to... need to find someone to give lessons!
10. Grow in my relationship with God. - I'm working on it daily.
11. Improve the relationship with my parents. - It's gotten a tad better. yay for that
12. Become a better communicator. - Well...
13. Stop sweating the petty stuff. - Needing constant prayer about this.
14. Broaden my culture horizons - Haiti definitely did this!!! I'm trying to get better about finding things locally as well.
15. Read the entire Bible. - I started -- still in Genesis, but starting is half the battle!

Father's Day

I'm a little behind again. It's so hard to get back on the horse!!!

I spent my Father's day here:

Bobbi was in town for a wedding and spared an hour to have lunch with us. :) I love this girl, she's such a riot. Non-stop laughs!!!

I did call my two lovely daddies and wish them a Happy Day. I am so blessed to have two dads that love me. My life is ever better and I'm a stronger person because of both of them. Circumstances whether good or bad with both have been a part of my growing journey. I definitely love them for it.

What have you learned from a woman this week (or ever)?

It's been awhile... :) Welcome back to me. hehe

This week, I decided to write about my friend, Christi. Where do I begin?

She's wonderful.
She's encouraging.
She puts up with my roller coaster moods when it comes to being healthy. :)

I met Christi when she walked into the wonderful world of Scouting. I don't recall what my first impression of her was... but I think I liked her bubbly personality. Over the last couple of years, Christi and I have managed to maintain our sanity levels by sharing our journeys of faith, singleness, drama, and many more topics!

I love getting the opportunity to share with her everyday, and joke around with her, yet have serious conversations about life. Her corny jokes and serenading me may have something to do with it too!!

Christi - I love ya and I look forward to many more years of sharing the journey! :)

Well, now that there's only a few hours left in Monday... :)

Not Me! Monday was created by MckMama. Check her blog to get started!

In the last week I did NOT catch up on cleaning the house, and I did NOT stay home from a birthday party so I could clean. My weekend did NOT include taking kids to an exhibit and we did NOT have a good time!

I have NOT been annoyed by summertime television.

I have also NOT been planning a super secret vaca, that will NOT include drama. :)

Tonight, I will NOT begin reading the entire Bible in a year.

What have you NOT done this week?

Narnia Exhibit

Yesterday some adults from church took some kids to the Narnia exhibit at Union Station. The exhibit was very cool, very well done. Unfortunately they generally don't let you take pictures inside, so we had to settle for a group shot outside. When we walked in (through doors that looked like a wardrobe), it was "snowing". They had interactive facts about the movies and where they were filmed. They had the White Witches throne, which you could sit on... and it was cold!!! They also had frozen water fall that you could touch. They had so much more, but it was awesome how interactive it was so it kept he kid's interest.

After the exhibit we took the kids to Crayola Cafe, which is always a good time.

Picture(s) of the week...or month

It's been crazy here. I haven't felt well, which in turn causes me to be in a funk. I've been praying. A lot. I've been reading God's word, seeking His will and purpose. I really hope to begin my regular blogging schedule next week. Here are a couple pictures to catch you up on the last month. :)

I cried as my brother, Ky, graduated from high school

I hung out with people I went to Haiti with... what a blast!

Sung "Proud to Be An American" at a concert at Ft. Leavenworth...cried.

Went to St. Louis for Memorial Weekend... refrained from crying.
